Florence is the capital of Tuscany and no doubt one of the most beautiful cities in the world. It was founded in the first century BC and developed as the cultural centre of Italy under the rule of the Medici family. Important authors and artistis like Dante Alighieri, Michelangelo, Leonardo Da Vinci, Donatello, Brunelleschi, Machiavelli and Galileo Galilei were Florentine or Tuscan natives. Here they accomplished most of their artistic masterpieces and/or discoveries.
Florence is considered to be the birthplace of the Renaissance and subsequently hosts some of the world’s best museums and art galleries showcasing the city’s history. In fact nearly a third of the world’s art treasures reside in Florence, according to UNESCO.
