Description
Teachers using CLIL (Content and Language Integrated Learning) in their classrooms often find it challenging to create resources, collaborate with colleagues, and engage learners effectively. Furthermore, the workload to find and adapt existing learning materials is often overwhelming and negatively affects the whole process.
Luckily enough, when it comes to CLIL, the effective use of digital technologies not only helps teachers adapt or create a ready-to-use bank of resources but also powerfully enhances students’ learning and competencies.
The course will allow teachers to explore strategies and ways to effectively introduce CLIL in the classroom thanks to the support of digital technologies. In addition, participants will discover a selection of quality ICT tools they can use to improve any teaching activity.
Each day of the course will focus on a different “C” that has to underpin CLIL planning (Content, Communication, Cognition, and Culture) while also serving as a prompt to practice different ICT tools and a variety of teaching methodologies for student-centered and collaborative learning in a digitally enhanced environment.
Participants will gain expertise with ICT-enhanced activities and collaborative tasks. Working in pairs or small groups, they will plan and implement didactic projects, authentic tasks, and activities to have ready-to-use material prepared for them by the end of the course.
Cooperating, and working in learning by-doing mode will also enhance the participant’s ability to select the most convenient and effective tool to adapt resources or create new ones, therefore effectively dealing with CLIL in their classes.
Moreover, by making proper use of a selection of ICT tools and actively cooperating, teachers will not only support their learners’ ability to increase content and language-related competence but also engage them effectively, meet their different needs, and boost their digital skills.
By the end of this course, the participants will have enhanced their planning skills in terms of selecting the most suitable ICT tool(s) to create or adapt activities and resources, also actively engaging students in their learning process.
Moreover, they will have increased their bank of CLIL resources with materials created from scratch or adapted from useful and inspiring websites. On top of that, they will be ready to promote a digitally enhanced CLIL approach based on shared planning, resources, and cooperation among teachers and learners.

Learning outcomes
The course will help the participants to use a selection of ICT tools to:
- Design CLIL modules and/or lessons suitable for their given curriculum;
- Apply strategies to promote critical thinking and language learning in content classes;
- Create CLIL-related materials (slides, screencasts, infographics..) and interactive activities (quizzes, surveys) also suitable for sharing in resource banks;
- Embed a selection of CLIL topics into different subjects/subject areas;
- Enhance cooperation amongst learners and teachers while sharing best practices suitable for CLIL;
- Explore formative and summative assessment strategies for CLIL (digital quizzes, surveys, and task-based projects).
Tentative schedule
Day 1 – Getting familiar with tech tools and CLIL
- Introduction to the course, the school, and the external week activities;
- Icebreaker activities;
- Presentations of the participants’ schools;
- Setting and sharing the personal and professional goal checklist;
- ICT tools in education: sharing participants’ backgrounds and evaluating needs;
- Introduction to 4Cs in CLIL (Content, Communication, Cognition, Culture).
Day 2 – ICT tools to plan lessons and create materials (focus on content)
- Exploring ICT tools to plan your CLIL lesson;
- Creating materials (slides, screencasts, infographics…) suitable for different subjects;
- Using ready-made videos to enhance engagement and content knowledge in the CLIL class;
- Adapting the selected or created resources to make them suitable and inclusive for your learners;
- Workshop: creating a digital CLIL lesson planner (infographic/template).
Day 3 – ICT tools to promote interaction (focus on communication)
- Using tools to launch and monitor group problem-solving in the classroom (digital notice boards, brainstorming spaces)
- Creating digitally-enhanced CLIL learning stations (also including multiple subjects)
- Planning group and multi-disciplinary engaging tasks (interactive games, quizzes)
- Workshop: Planning learning stations suitable for CLIL.
Day 4 – ICT tools to enhance thinking skills (focus on Cognition) and for assessment purposes
- Enhancing analytical thinking skills using digital mind maps and surveys;
- Enhancing creative thinking skills via screencasts and interactive presentations (creating)
- Ideas for multiple-outcome CLIL projects and their digitally enhanced assessment (formative and summative)
- Workshop: Launching a CLIL multi-subject project.
Day 5 – ICT tools to promote global citizenship (focus on Culture)
- Assembling and sharing ideas and outcomes from previous workshops;
- Ideas to deal with global citizenship in the CLIL class (infographic /interactive pictures)
- Creating an Info-graphic/digital document to rank our ICT favorites;
- Completing and sharing group projects.
Day 6 – Course closure and cultural activities
- Course evaluation: round-up of acquired competencies, feedback, and discussion;
- Awarding of the course Certificate of Attendance;
- Excursion and other external cultural activities.
