English Language Course for Beginners

Are you a teacher looking to strengthen your English language skills, whether for personal or professional reasons? Then this is the course for you!

In this English beginner’s course, you will be gradually introduced to the main grammar topics you will need to start having simple conversations.

While learning about the simple tenses and how to use them, you will have the opportunity to practice in group activities.

You will participate in Content and Language Integrated Learning (CLIL) activities in order to practice your English while familiarizing yourself with a new place.

Going outside the classroom will also give you the opportunity to practice your listening and speaking skills in a real-world context.

Explore the local culture and history, engage in dialogue on topics of relevant interest to teachers, and gain confidence in reading, writing, and speaking the English language.

Meet educators from other countries and make lasting connections to continue practicing your English even after completing the course.

Learning outcomes

The course will help participants to:

• Improve English vocabulary, grammar, pronunciation, and conversational skills;
• Become familiar with the most common verb structures;
• Gain confidence in having simple conversations;
• Participate in innovative Content and Language Integrated Learning (CLIL) activities;
• Immerse yourself in local history and culture;
• Meet teachers from other countries in Europe and around the world;
• Acquire first-hand experience as a student to refresh your perspective as a teacher.

Tentative schedule

Day 1 – Course introduction & setting goals

• Introduction to the course, the school, and the external week activities;
• Presentations of the participants’ schools;
• Identification of needs and goals for each participant and relevant populations.

Day 2 – English grammar and conversation for beginners

• Introduction to basic English: everyday vocabulary and introduction to tenses;
• Grammar: Present simple – When should we use it?;
• Speaking: Introduce yourself, talk about your life, and talk about your routines;
• Pair and group work: reinforce grammar concepts and practice your conversation skills.

Day 3 – Past simple tense and conversation for beginners

• Grammar: Past simple tense – regular and irregular verbs. Common verbs and time; expressions to talk about the past, the different tenses in English;
• Speaking: Sharing personal stories, talking about past experiences;
• Pair and group work: reinforce grammar concepts and practice your conversation skills.

Day 4 – Future forms and conversation for beginners

• Grammar: Future forms;
• Vocabulary: Days, months, future time expressions, and travel-related vocabulary;
• Speaking: Talking about future plans, imagine a future holiday;
• Pair and group work: reinforce grammar concepts and practice your conversation skills.

Day 5 – Reinforce grammar concepts and conversation for beginners

• Grammar focus: review of simple tenses, questions from participants;
• Keep it up: How to continue your English improvement journey;
• Pair and group work: reinforce grammar concepts and practice your conversation skills.

Day 6 – Course closure and cultural activities

• Course evaluation: round-up of acquired competencies, feedback, and discussion;
• Awarding of the course Certificate of Attendance;
• Excursion and other external cultural activities.
